Maybe you saw the old movie TOPKAPI, or have seen history shows on the Blue Mosque? I don't think you get the full effect unless they are standing before you where you can take in the whole site. Topkapi palace is now a museum so full of treasure and history, I wandered through for 4 hours and still didn't see everything. The Blue Mosque is overwhelmingly beautiful, people were praying even while all the tourists filed through.
